Comments

The stylized lettering of this coin is difficult to read, and there are multiple suggestion for its reading. Millies (1871:114) can only confidently read fi bilad Palembang في بلد ڤلمبڠ. He identified a potential dar... دار and what appears to be a partial year 11... ١١. This suggests a date no later than AH 1199 (= AD 1785). Mitchiner & Yih (2013:43) suggested the reading 'alamat fi bilad Palembang dar Inglistan علامت في بلد ڤلمبڠ دار اڠ لست ن "Mark of the City of Palembang, seat of the State of England." This suggests a date between AD 1812 to 1816 during the British occupation of Sumatra, in which British forces installed Sultan Ahmad Najamuddin II in Palembang. Mitchiner & Yih did not suggest a written year on the coin itself. Robinson (2015) read the legend as 'alamat bilad Palembang علامت بلد ڤلمبڠ. Robinson mentioned that some sources say the coin dates from AH 1163 AH (= AD 1750), but does not mentioned which source or how the year was deduced. Gumilar (2021:9) read the legend simply as 'alamat fi bilad Palembang علامت في بلد ڤلمبڠ.

Robinson (2015) provided the following variants:
