Abstract

The author presents the problem of attribution of the bronze coins with the monogram [.] , found during the excavations on the sites of Abdera and Maroneia, and proposes a city named Agathocleia or Agathopolis as a probable mint. This city, otherwise unknown by the litterary sources, may either be placed somewhere between Abdera and Maroneia or be identified with a well known city of the Thracian coast, as Maroneia or Orthagoreia, who could have changed name to Agathopolis or Agathocleia for a short time, during the reign of Lysimachus.
