Glass

Glass is an amorphous material made by melting silica-based compounds and cooling them without crystallization. It can be transparent or coloured and is chemically stable and non-corrosive, but it is brittle and prone to scratching or breakage, which makes it unsuitable for circulation coinage. Glass is therefore rarely encountered in numismatics, except for a few novelty collector coins and medals.
