Comments

Sea Turtles, Turtuga in Papiamentu, belong to the family of large turtles. At the moment there are seven sea turtles species worldwide, four of which live in the waters around Aruba. The Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) is the largest of the sea turtles and is more brown than green in color and has a relatively small head.
The Aruban beaches are a favorite location for the female sea turtles to lay their eggs. With a bit of luck, it is possible to see both the nesting turtle mothers and the hatchlings.
During the breeding season, the nests on the beaches are protected so that beach guests do not inadvertently walk over them.
