Comments

In 1999, an idea was initiated to produce an official series of legal tender Millennial coins for the countries within the Commonwealth featuring the six monarchs of the twentieth century; Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. British sculptor Donald R. Golder finished sculpting twenty portraits of the monarchs, inspired by the contemporary models used in the official coinage. The proposed six-coin series never materialised, but in 2001, two of Golder's portraits were featured on two coins issued in Zambia commemorating the death of Victoria and the accession of Edward VII in 1901.

A series of modern high quality "unofficial pattern" coins were released for the United Kingdom and its realms, including Jersey. These coins were minted between 2000 and 2001.
