Note: coins were distributed mainly in Norway by local coin distributor (some of coins available also via Isle of Man Post Office: locally on the island and via their website). On the original certificates of authenticity (in Norwegian) composition was stated as silver plated bronze. However the IOM government acts (Currency determination) says that core of these coins (high relief 32.6g) is made from tombac (Cu85Zn15 = Brass).
In Norse mythology, Loki is a trickster god and shapeshifter of giant lineage who is both a companion and adversary to the Aesir gods, fathering monstrous offspring with the giantess Angerboda and later giving birth to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir. He is known for his cunning and ability to deceive, but also for his malevolent actions, such as causing the death of Baldur, which ultimately leads to his binding until the Rangarok, the apocalypse.
The coin was given the appearance of an antique finish.
