This 6 coin Fine Silver Proof Set was issued by the RAM in 2008.
Four of the six coins in the set are based on the standard circulation coins as issued by the RAM in 2008. All of them have the Ian Rank-Broadley 4th Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The 20 cent and $1 coins are based on NCLT commemorative coins issued by the RAM into Mint & Proof sets in 2007.
The Commemorative coins celebrate the United Nations declared 2008 International Year of Planet Earth adopting the theme "earth sciences for society". Geological hazards are a key issue for the United Nations and promoting this year was the biggest international effort to promote this field of scientific endeavour.
Coins were issued in individual capsules, then placed in slots in a Western Australian Octagonal shaped Jarrah wood presentation box, then in an outside cardboard slipcase.
