This set celebrates Cossack regalia – attributes of power. These regalia are associated with a heroic age of Ukrainian history – an age that has become an inexhaustible source of national dignity, love for freedom and state-building aspirations. Over the centuries, historical tradition has shaped the list of the Zaporozhian Army’s regalia. These include a flag, a mace, a bunchuk (a pole with circularly placed horse tail hairs arranged at the top), a seal, a pernach (a type of flanged mace), kettledrums, surma-horns, and an ink-pot. Hetman seals – integral attributes of the power of hetmans Hryhorii Loboda, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Petro Doroshenko and Ivan Skoropadskyi – provided the foundation of the coin set, showing the Cossack age from its birth to its dusk, while also symbolizing powerful historical periods.
