Members of Numista can contribute to the catalogue by adding examples of a type.
Here are some high level guidelines for the validation of examples by referees. As the feature is still new, the guidelines will probably evolve in the near future as more examples get added.
- Scope. All examples are welcome. Examples can be used to illustrate different varieties, conservation states, post-mint damages, chopmarks, fake items, or just different examples of the same type.
- Accuracy. Referees should verify the accuracy of the data where possible. For example, referees should verify the accuracy of the identification, whereas there is no expectation to verify the weight, as long as the provided weight looks possible.
- Pictures. Members can upload up to 5 pictures. There are no requirements about having one side or both sides of the item on the same picture. Referees should reject the addition of an example if the pictures are not clear enough: the image is too blurry; the size of the item is less than 50% of the size of the picture; the background is too clumsy and impacts readability; etc.
- Comments. The comments attached to an example should be specific to the example. Referees should remove any comments that are generic to the type or the version, and move them to the comments of the type of the version where appropriate.
