Miguel Ángel Pratt Mayans

Miguel Ángel Pratt Mayans (1944–2021) was a renowned Paraguayan numismatist recognized for his extensive research on Paraguay’s coins and banknotes. Born in Asunción, he studied at Colegio de San José and later at the Escuela Paraguaya de Administración Pública. In 1976, he founded Numismática Independencia S.R.L., a business specializing in numismatics, philately, and antiques.

Throughout his career, Pratt Mayans authored several important publications, including Catálogo de Monedas y Ensayos del Paraguay (1985) and Catálogo de Billetes del Paraguay (1990), co-authored with Carlos Alberto Pusineri Scala. He also contributed to World Coins and World Paper Money by Krause Publications. As an active member of the American Numismatic Association and the Paraguayan Numismatic Society, his work remains an invaluable resource for collectors and historians studying Paraguay’s currency.
