Comments

The Royal Australian Mint in conjunction with some Australian Newspapers released this NCLT coin as part of a 14 coin set in April 2017. The first coin came with a large folding album and the coins were issued in coincards. The series is called "Legends of the Anzacs - Medals of Honour".

To get a coin you had to obtain a token from the newspaper and redeem it at a cost of $3.00. Different tokens were published each day for 2 weeks (hence 14 coins). The coins are commemorating various service medals awarded to Australian Military personnel from the Boer War to the Afghanistan War.
Ten of the 14 coins released in the series are 20 cent coins and four of them are 25 cent coins.

This particular 20 cent coin refers to the Military Cross medal which was originally awarded to commissioned junior officers for distinguished and gallant service during the First World War, before being extended to more senior ranks in the Second World War, Korea and Vietnam. Almost 3000 Australians have been awarded the Military Cross since it was established in 1914.
