The reference GEM 19612 refers to a normal example, with the bead between the silver-colored part and the orange part. The reference GEM 19612 var. refers to an example without this bead, indicating a different minting and assembly method. The specimen with the bead appears to have a higher grade than the one without.
It is possible that the process used for the coin without the bead is the same as that used for the GEM 2144 and Gad 869 assay, which is also without the bead.
These minting trials were created to test the weight and diameter as well as the minting process of the 10 francs génie de la bastille. The die adopted was the one with the bead, as it is found on all 10 francs.
