Comments

Adolphe Bellevoye was born in Metz, Moselle, on April 9, 18301. He was educated at the industrial school in Metz, before training as an engraver with Louis Michaud1, an artist from Metz. He also took lessons from Émile Faivre, who encouraged his artistic endeavors. Adolphe Bellevoye runs a jewelry store and workshop, where he also practises engraving. Adolphe Bellevoye was one of the leading Messinian engravers of the 19th century1 , along with the two Malardots, de Turgy, Aimé de Lemud, Auguste Hussenot, Gallyot, Pelletier, Penguilly and Léon Simon. His artistic work, influenced by Romanticism, mainly illustrates the historical and archaeological heritage of Metz and the surrounding region. He published etchings of churches, castles and the Jouy-aux-Arches aqueduct. He illustrated numerous books: coin plates for numismatists; coats of arms, castles and family trees for nobles; churches, old houses, drawings of archaeological remains and stained-glass windows for local scholars; and bookplates for bibliophiles. His numismatic work, with engravings of medals, is considerable.Automatically translated
