Comments

Located on the slopes of the Alpilles mountains, these two monuments, more commonly known as "Les Antiques", guarded the entrance to the town of Glanum. These magnificent edifices sit to the south of the town, on the road linking Saint-Rémy de Provence to Les Baux de Provence. Their state of preservation and their imposing, harmonious form are the guarantors of a fame that dates back long before the town of Glanum was discovered. For centuries, they have attracted walkers, hikers, painters and photographers from all over the world. These two remains, the Arc de Triomphe and the Mausoleum of Julius, have been classified as Historic Monuments since 1840. For over 16 centuries, they were the only witnesses to the early days of Saint-Rémy de Provence, and the only buildings still visible in the Greco-Roman city of Glanum. It wasn't until 1921 that excavations uncovered the destroyed and forgotten city.Automatically translated
