This token is struck by Pichard Balme in Saumur, a subsidiary of Arthus Bertrand since its takeover in 1999.
The token depicts the Templar chapel in Laon.
In 1134, the Knights Templar established a Commandery of the Order of the Temple in Laon.
The octagonal Commandery chapel was built around 1140, with the choir of the central building intended as a replica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
The religious edifice served as a funeral chapel. It contains the recumbent tombstone of Guillaume de Harcigny, physician to King Charles VI of France. Owned by the commune, the chapel was listed as a Monument Historique in 1846.
