Commemorative issue

50th anniversary of the Concorde’s first commerical flight.

Obverse

It highlights the most prestigious destinations served by the Air France Concorde: New York and Rio. The design features the Concorde at full speed, flying over the bay of Rio, which can be recognized by the Corcovado seen from the back and the sugar loaf. Above the plane, New York is symbolized by the face of the Statue of Liberty, dominating the skyline of late 20th-century Manhattan, with the twin towers in the background. The face value and the words "RF" complete the design.

Reverse

The center of the composition is occupied by a representation of Concorde seen from above. In place of its right delta wing stands the Eiffel Tower, which, with its similar shape to that of the supersonic aircraft, blends perfectly with it. The fusion of these elements recalls both Concorde's nationality and its first place of take-off. On either side of the central subject, vertical lines evoke the plane's lightning speed. The words "50 ans de la mise en service du Concorde" and the vintage date complete the design.
