Abstract

This paper explains how the author drifted into the study of ancient Greek and Roman coinage in a serendipitous way. The author has made multiple contributions to numismatics during his career. The remainder of the paper describes a number of institutions in different

countries and the ways in which they handle and promote the study of this subject, closing with a discussion on how one might go about systematically introducing history students to numismatics.
