Comments

Since its separation from Colombia in 1903, Panama has used the United States Dollar. These coins have the same specifications as the 1 Dollar. Due to the rising price of silver in the 1960s, these coins were never issued for general circulation and were sold with a premium above face value.

According to the Royal British Mint, 200 thousand 1967-dated coins were minted. The ultimate fate of these coins is currently unknown.

More than 200,000 of the 1966 coins were melted down in 1971 to provide silver for 20 Balboas coins.
