Hello everyone!

I reached another milestone of mine - 280 "Numista Countries"! If someone may be interested, I wanted to share my excitement with my Numista fellows again. I posted a similar topic earlier this year.
https://en.numista.com/forum/topic97671.html

I know there are quite a few people who are trying to collect "Numista countries" as well, I completely understand this approach. It has been an interesting journey so far, with lots of new information researched, history and geography learned. Special thank you to some Numista swappers, and, of course, my wallet.

My next milestone is 285 countries. Further, it will be extremely/impossibly hard.

To make this post also useful for other people, I put down a list of 23 "Numista countries" that I still don't have. I know, the total number constantly changes in the catalog, so it may be different in a couple of months. I also put short comments about them and assigned a Level (From 1 to 5) depending on how hard/expensive it is to obtain a coin from that "Numista country". Please, feel free to share your thoughts, ideas, possible corrections. Please, tell me where you are standing regarding the number of countries, what countries did you find hard/easy.

Countries and territories:

1. Isles de France and Bonaparte (Level 4). Very rare coins. I have seen several coins on sale. $1,500+

2. Kievan Rus (Level 4). Or more correct name "Ruthenia". Extremely rare coins. I have never seen original coins on sale. Though, after the catalog was modified and "Tmutarakan, Principality of" was added under Kievan Rus, it opened some room for coins in the range of several hundred $.

3. Saint Barthelemy (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

4. Sint Maarten (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

5. Tashir-Dzoraget, Kingdom of (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

Ancient and early medieval polities

6. Avar Khaganate (Level 5). Extremely rare gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.

7. Burgundian Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare mostly gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.

8. Celtic Britain (Level 3). This "country" was added recently. I still need to research it deeper. But I believe it is possible to get coins from it.

9. Crimean Goths (Level 3). Coins are not frequent, especially at Western auctions, but it seems it is easier to obtain them in Ukraine for 40-80$.

10. Egypt (ancient) (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

11. Etruria (Level 5). Extremely rare coins, very few on sale. $4,000+

12. Gaul (Level 2). This "country" was modified and separated recently from "Celts". It is possible to get coins from it.

13. Gepid Kingdom (Level 4). Not frequent coins, but I believe possible to get. Quite a lot of fake coins from "Gepid Kingdom" are sold online.

14. Herulian Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

15. Italy (ancient) (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

16. Lombard Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

17. Mauretania (Level 3). There are coins on sale. I am waiting for the right coin and price. $150+

18. Mesopotamia (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.

19. Philistia, Cities of (Level 2). This "country" was added separately to Numista recently. I will need to look at it more, but I believe there are coins starting at $30+

20. Suebi Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare mostly gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.

21. Uncertain Germanic tribes (Level 5). "Country" that I have the most questions about. It seems that it is basically "etc." coins from Germanic tribes. No idea how to approach it.

Modern states with limited recognition

22. Abkhazia (Level 2). There are coins on sale at $80+. I am not planning to buy them (the reason will be "Moderated because of "political opinion" on Numista, so I will not explain it. Everyone knows it anyway).

23. South Ossetia (Level 3). There are coins on sale at $200+. The same situation, I am not planning to buy them (the reason will be "Moderated because of "political opinion" on Numista, so I will not explain it. Everyone knows it anyway).

To sum up the Levels:
Level 1: 0
Level 2: 3
Level 3: 4
Level 4: 3
Level 5: 13

Thank you for reading!

Well done on the milestone iiruig.
Very impressive. Didn't know half the places mentioned on your list. I like the levels assigned - gives a good idea of the difficulty involved in obtaining them.
Congrats on achieving your goal. I'm impressed at how systematic you are in mapping out your journey. Good luck towards the next milestone!

Thanks, Oscar!
Good to hear from you!
Merry Christmas to you and your father as well!
Well done,
Time to look at issuers, as you have 92.4% of all listed countries, but only 14.4% of issuers :O

When there are that many issuers to go at, there is a lot of history to be uncovered, German States are my favs, though Swiss Cantons are a close 2nd.

Well done again!!!!!

Stewart
Congratulations Sir

I just now broke 200 countries (now at 208) , took forever it seems. Im not sure I wanna even try for more. Learned a lot though, hard to believe some lands are so small but still a sovereign country.

Thank you! Untill 240 it is not that hard to go. The challenge begins after 260:)

My goal is reaching 200 countries. 9 more to go! (But they have to be coins made for circulation 👀)
