Maybe, but where did you find that? I cannot find it searching "usa 10 cents 1814 large date", it's not in the Red Book ,either, which doesn't mean anything.
SCWC gave me the hint:
Then I looked in Red Book - nothing
Then I looked at PCGS - no mention of it. Then I went through the pictures in PCGS of 1814 Large date and there they were.
Yes, that works. I'm not sure the "no period" was the "normal" since 1814 is the only year of this type that had coins without periods. But maybe for this year it was the "normal" based on the 12 / 5 split in PCGS?
No. What I was trying (poorly) to say was that the "no period" should be considered the variant. All other 1814's (small date and STATESOF) have periods as well as all other years. Maybe not use the word "variant" at all. Maybe "Large date coins exist both with and without a period after 10C. All others have the period." and show a close-up of one without the period also.
Honestly, it's called Philadelphia mint and not Philly mint, filly is a kind of horse, even with the Ph spelling it is no good.
"The term filly describes a horse of a specific age range and gender. In general, a filly is a female horse under the age of 4. In some parts of the equine world, female horses under 5 years of age are called fillies. As a filly, the horse will experience a number of vital changes as it matures into a mare."
