Help to identify larger Roman coin

5 posts • viewed 83 times

Hi,

struggling to find a match with this coin using either image search or reading partial letters

size - 23mm

weight - 7.5-8g

appearance - heavy bronze

Able to make out NIKAI on the figure side, and last word looks like it ends in an N.

what looks ANTONINOC on the portrait side.

Not sure if the NIKAI is part of one word, or if it should be split.

any help identifying would be much appreciated,

cheers

Found this, but lettering on portrait side does not seem to match …

N#175187

I think it may come from Nicea though, with the NIKAI….. on the front.

Anyone got any thoughts or ideas ?

thanks

Bit more digging and it looks like the emperor is Antoninus, and coin is from Nicaea, but not able to match this info with an entry in the catalogue.

With the information now identified, is any one able to help with the denomination and years ?

many thanks

cheers

You seem to me to have a fondness for Roman Coins. Perhaps this will help as I believe it to be more comprehensive than what is available on Numista to date.
