Hello,

on the wiki page “Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville)” it's mentionned :

- Republic of the Congo (1960–1964) which didn't issue any coin,

- Democratic Republic of the Congo (1964–1971) which writed “Democratic republic” on coins.

So the name of this “period sub issuer” is problematic, without mentioning the fact that Leopoldville was renamed to Kinshasa on 1966

So in the Numista catalog we might forget the “Republic of the Congo” and name the issuer from 1964 to 1971 :

Democratic Republic of the Congo - first issue

Then since 1998 the issuer name might be :

Democratic Republic of the Congo - second issue or “reborn” to be trendy :)

The Republic did issue notes, so we must retain it. Part of the problem here is that there were two République du Congo, so we need some way of distinguishing them. Adding the capital in brackets has long been the accepted means of doing so and, in the case of the state in question, the capital was Léopoldville at the time.

The way to distinguish the 2 Congos is to say ‘Congo (Brazzaville)' & ’Congo (Kinshasa)', which has been the case since the overthrow of the Zairean dictatorship of J.D. Mobutu in 1997.

Aidan.

Anyway, you can't name the issuer “Republic of Congo” when on coins “Democratic Republic of Congo” is written !

And what is this new style not to respect the alphabetic order ?

Will we get soon : “Kingdom ofTravancore” instead of the current “Travancore, Kingdom of”

So for Congo, the name of the issuer should be : "Congo, Democratic republic, first issue"

The classification of banknotes is different and based on issuing institutes :
- République du Congo -  Conseil Monétaire de la République du Congo - 1962-1963 Issue

- Banque Nationale du Congo - 1961 Issue (1961 - 1.aug.1964)

and we can see that they didn't issue notes after the Constitution of August 1, 1964 of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Either Pick and the SCWC gather (and wiki too):

- “République du Congo (1960–1964)”

- and “République démocratique du Congo (1964–1971)”

in a sole entity “Congo republic Léopoldville”, renamed “Congo Kinshasa” on 1966.

It's OK for banknotes but not for coins because “Democratic republic of the Congo ” is written on coins.

Afterwards it's not a big deal, if you want to change for something closer to reality, you change, if you don't want to, it won't make me cry 🤪
