Display referees and their spoken languages near sources field in request

Fields on object pages can only contain text in English and French (except the lettering field, of course).

But… what about the sources fields? Until now I always write in this field in English (I do not speak French), but I realised that when I edit an object from Spain, the referees are Spanish, and they speak Spanish like me, so I can write in Spanish to communicate with them.

I know this about the referees of Spain, but I do know if other issuers have Spanish-speaking referees. We might think that it is normal for an Spanish-speaking issuer to have Spanish-speaking referees, but this may not be the case. It may also happens that a Spanish-speaking issuer does not have referee and its requests are reviewed by non Spanish-speaking master referees.

I refer to the Spanish language because I am from Spain, but the same applies to other languages.

Edit: The history sources are saved https://en.numista.com/forum/topic154882.html#p1214119 and the communication is in English or French does facilitate future consultation. This suggestion is useful if the contributor is not able to write long texts in English or French, to know they could write in another language. With a note saying that it is is preferable to write in English or French.

The referees and their spoken languages could be displayed near the sources field.

Quite amazed as Spanish and French are both Romance languages and should be quite easy to understand together.

Words are very similar in my opinion, for the Spanish just an an e or o in my cases.

Domingo, Dimanche,   Mardi, Martes,  Viernes, Vendredi,  Espana, Espagne etc

All sounds quite similar.

But your suggestion has merit, especially for us dumb English only speakers.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

¿Que quieres que te diga?

Qu'est-ce que tu veux que je dise?

Just the same I guess … first and last word both start with the same letters  ;-)

For the  proposal, it is useful to communicate, but when using references … they will also be consulted later on and you never know what language the future referees might understand. Even though useful for chit-chat, important information should preferably be in English (though I guess there'll always be enough Spanish speakers to referee Spain 😉 ).

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

This is an important point, that I did not take into account.

When the request disappears from our list after 30 days, the sources history is saved? In this case, it is true that if the communication is in English or French, it does facilitate future consultation.

Yes, it is in the change history, so every sourcing given that is not year line related is saved (from when this feature was implemented and maybe a bit before).

Ok. Then I will return to write in English in the sources.

In any case I think this suggestion is useful if the contributor is not able to write long texts in English or French, to know they could write in another language. With a note saying that it is is preferable to write in English or French.

You're only two clicks away from getting that information yourself. If it's that critical to know you can do it easily now.  Wouldn't it make more sense to add a Translate button to the Sources field for the referee? That way you could write in any language you're more comfortable regardless of which referee validates.

This would be good.
