Since numista did so many nice adjustments lately, I think it's time for this:

I suggest sorting by series, for example some issuers have ambiguous KM# and some XX century coins get mixed with XIX century because one specific old coin has a lately added KM#, and if I sort them by Catalogue reference, they get mixed.

If I want to sort them by Date, could be also a problem (example: 1 cent minted 2001, 2 cents minted 2005, 5 cents minted 2001 and in 2005 another coin series was released) because in many series happens, and the newly 2005 issued coins will get mixed with the 2001-2005 series, so I cannot sort them the way I'd like.

Examples could continue for all sorting systems, so I suggest adding Series sorting system where coins and banknotes could be added to a specific series and when searching by series they can appear like that for example:

Series 2001-2005 (or some alternative name)

#1 - 1 Cent 2001 (coin)

#2 - 2 Cents 2005 (coin)

#3 - 5 Cents 2001 (coin)

#4 - 1 Dollar 2002 (banknote)

Series 2005-2010

#5 - 1 Cent 2005 (new series)

#6 - 2 Cents 2005 (new series)

etc.

I think that it's a good idea I'm agree

I do like this idea, but some special attention should be given to naming a/the series, like adding a country code.

E.g., ‘MX Series D’

Reason for this ‘warning’, is because there are already issues on Numista where series with the same name are fused.
Consider the following series as proof, that adding something like a country code would be advisable:

Series D (mixes the Cayman Islands, England, and Mexico, but bills aren't related)

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=6182

Series F (mixes England and Mexico, but bills aren't related)

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=6187

Series G (mixes England and Mexico, but bills aren't related)

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=6189

All that said, I do really like the idea: I just wanted to point out a potential pitfall. 😅

before adding a country code, did you try to filter by issuer?

what about splitting the spurious series?

I don't quite understand what you mean?

If clicking on, say, the Series D link, it shows that multiple countries were added in the same series, despite them not being related at all.

Series D: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/series.php?id=6182

Adding country codes to series would automatically fix this. No-one will accidentally add bills/coins from Mexico to a series labelled as being from England, unless there is somehow a relation.

So I'd definitely be in favour of adding country codes to series.

True, there are series which involve multiple countries, but they tend to have unique names - unlike ‘Series D’ - and would thus not cause issues: take the Treaty of Rome series, which involves more than a dozen countries (and even multiple currencies).

(And even then, Numista could opt for using continental abbreviations - EU, NA, etc. - if need be)

a workaround is filtering by emitter

I think you can also ask to split the existing spurious D series in 3 different D series with the country name.

that said adding a country for each series  would be definitely an improvement, maybe you should open a new suggestion on its own

Up!?

As a collector of One From Each Series I think this is a great idea. Albeit sorting the pitfalls may take a little work!
