Hello Numista team and fellow collectors,
I’d like to suggest the creation of a dedicated Notgeld category for Ukrainian local emergency banknotes — particularly those issued during the period of political and economic instability (1917–1920s).
Currently, individual issues such as Odesa, Zhytomyr, and other local emergency notes are placed in Russia civil war. However, these notes were issued locally on the territory of modern-day Ukraine, often by city councils, local treasuries, or cooperative banks acting under emergency conditions.
These issues clearly fall within the definition of Notgeld, and their geographical, historical, and cultural uniqueness justifies a separate grouping, as is already the case for German, Austrian, Latvian, and Polish Notgeld in the catalog.
I suggest:
Creating a dedicated “Ukraine (Notgeld)” section, similar to other countries with city-issued notes.
Moving existing city issues like Odesa, Zhytomyr, etc. from the Russian Civil War era into that section.
This would make the catalog more accurate and useful for collectors interested in Eastern European emergency currency.
Thanks for considering this!
