This note has the date 2nd of Messidor Year 8 in the French Republican calendar. This corresponds to the 21st of June 1800. However, entering “8 10 2” for the date (since Messidor was the 10th month) and selecting the French Republican calendar is not correctly understood. Instead, “8-Oct-02 (1799)” is displayed. I realise this was a short-lived calendar but, given how distinct it is from the Gregorian calendar, it would be best if it's set up fully to save contributors having to do their own conversions to get the right AD date. I can supply a complete list of conversions if needed.

Someone has downvoted this. Would they mind explaining why?

Hello,

The months of the French Republican calendar are currently not supported. If you believe it's important to implement it, feel free to upvote the previous post about it: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic135849.html

I already have upvoted that post.

We could use the Gregorian day and month along with the Republican year to get the correct Gregorian year to display, but that the implies a different date to the one on the note. The alternative would be to abandon the Republican calendar and convert all dates to Gregorian. I'd rather see the Republican calendar properly set up. It may only have been used for a few years but it would be a valuable resource for those unfamiliar with it's peculiarites.
