1 Mon "Kan'eitsūhō" new type [solved]

7 posts • viewed 78 times

Hello everyone,

I have two Japanese coins that we both classify as 1 Mon "Kan'eitsūhō" New Type
1 Mon "Kan'eitsūhō" (new type; copper alloy; blank reverse) C# 1.1, N# 121454

I can't identify the exact type.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

3.11gr  - 2.4cm

2.62gr - 2.4cm

Could it be so?

First coin — 3.11g, 2.4cm Probable DHJ# 4.103

The weight is above average for New Type issues, which typically range between 2.5g and 2.9g.

The calligraphy appears more pronounced and symmetrical, with well-defined strokes.

The character 寳 (Hō) has separated legs, typical of post-1668 issues.

DHJ# 4.103 is one of the earlier New Type variants, attributed to the Edo mint, with regular edges and good casting quality.

Second coin — 2.62g, 2.4cm Probable DHJ# 4.108

The lighter weight is consistent with later and more economical issues.

The characters are slightly thinner and less deeply struck.

Here too, the legs of 寳 are separated, but the casting is less precise.

DHJ# 4.108 is a more common variant, attributed to the Osaka or Nagasaki mint, with higher-volume production and lower overall quality.
