What is the first coin you bought this year?  For me, I added to my collection of silver UK shillings.  I picked up this 1887 Jubilee head shilling in F grade.

What? Me Worry

I haven't bought any coins this year yet 💔

A few silvers from a December swap arrived today, so happy new year to me and you 🥳

I love the spooky portrait on the 5 Mark, reminds of the movie Das Weiße Band - Eine Deutsche Kindergeschichte.

My first 2026 purchase was the 2021, and 2022 proof innovation dollars from the US Mint. Ive been having one hell of a time trying to find the 2024 reverse proof innovation for anything less than $100.

Didn't bought anything yet… The year barely started, time to rest a little.

That said, I already saw a coin that I am aiming to buy. But for me it's still a little too early for such temptation purchases, so it will be only for the end of the month. At least the coin is already reserved.

And why it's a temptation, you ask. Because it's a french silver from the time of the Hundred Years' War, minted when Joan of Arc was still alive or shortly after her death.

I understand that, but for me it's the opposite.  Having 2 weeks off work allowed me time to peruse the coin listings online.  Usually during the year when I'm working, I don't get a lot of time to sort through.  I've already managed to pick up 4 coins that I have been looking for this year already.

Congrats for your findings. If january is the best time for you to find new special coins, go ahead without regret.

As for me, the best time is december, because of a major coin fair (the biggest one of my country). I've spent a lot on that fair last time, that's why I want some rest. If I buy some coin before I order that medieval silver, it will be when visiting a local seller.

This 1937 Fijian Florin was the 1st one of 3 coins I got on Buy now auctions on January 2 - I received it January 7th.

In New Zealand, our summer is this time of year and the school year ends in mid December and then you have Christmas and New Years. So we all take a break from the weekend before Christmas to mid or late January. Some of our provinces have their annual holidays in January and our 2 biggest (Auckland province, which is the whole North Island to Taupo and Wellington province, most of the rest of it) have their holidays in late January. Schools drift back to a new school year in the last week of January and 1st week of February. Add to that Waitangi Day on February 6th, the country only really comes back then.

As a result coin and note listings dive at this time of year as most dealers and reputable sellers are on holiday and the listings are thin.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

First arrival of 2026, I gleened some decent silver from a small shop. nothing special just silver stacking.
