Question about registering a medal with the website database -> what country?

3 posts • viewed 38 times

Hello Community,

I have here a rare medal from the “21st Theater Army Area Command” (TAACOM). Now, this is the United States Army, it says so on the medal BUT the TAACOM was always stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany until it was dissolved in 1988. They had no footprint on US soil.

So what country of origin do I choose here?

Regards

Dennis

Call me Desdenova, The Eternal Light.

considering that challenge coins/medals are more of an american thing, and it's an american unit, I would just put america as country of origin as it was most likely made there too

Send an image and I’ll be able to tell you the answer. Your medal has two possibilities;

1. US issued to US unit on German soil. Under the treaties signed post WWII post allied occupation, British, French and American units stayed under NATO agreements and as such had military control of their sectors on a large scale (like those within West Berlin on the smaller scale) and had nothing to do with West Germany as a country. Answer - Origin USA.

2. Your medal was issued by the West German or State government and presented to the unit in question. Answer - Origin West Germany.
