Hi guy! I have this coin, 100 lire 1959 for the Vatican cit, but it’s a variant not existent on Numista and neither on other websites. I was able to find a little writing about it on the website “Numismatica europea” but not much. The variant is in the face where the Pope is represented: you can see that the writing is “IOANNES • XXIII • P• M • AN • I ⭐️”, but in the “normal” coin should be “IOANNES • XXIII • P• M • AN • I”, you can see the pictures. Does anyone know anything about this?
If you look on the coin page N#2642 and read the comments it explains the difference in legend.
All 1959 coins should be like that AN I ⭐, at least the from the images I have seen for coin sales, and read from the explanation. You claim it should be just AN I (like the image comparison you provided) which is a AN III from 1961, so it is comparing apples to oranges Km64.1 AN I 1959 to Km64.2 AN II - IV 1960 - 1962.
If you are asking why? I dont know but they obviously decided to change the design, however your coin is totally normal.
