I got this coin today, and the seller sold it as “Indian rupee ‐ silver”, and he states the weight as 2.7 grams.

Here's picture of the coin, and apologies if the orientation is wrong:

Cheers!

The Spanish phrase "Imperio Mogol Ilkanato Persa Moneda Plata Doble Dirham"

translates to "Mughal Empire Ilkhanate Persian Silver Double Dirham Coin".

This refers to a silver coin minted in the Ilkhanate (Persian Mongol empire)

under ruler Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan, specifically around 1316.

I cannot find it in Numista (Ka'in mint type), but I think your coin could be this:

Ka'in, actually and currently Qaen قائن or قاین, in present-day Iran, South Khorasan province.

Thanks a lot, mate!

29 mm is too big, I will find something to compare it to, since it's imposible to judge size from photos.

Is the coin dated as well? My Arabic reading is basically non-existant. 🫣

I'd say 19 mm woukd be a fair guess. Here's a comparisson with a Danish 16 Skilling Rigsmønt, which is 22 mm.

I have not found any other coin available on that whole site struck in Ka'in, so yours should be the one I linked before.

If you have a look at all the other examples (from different mints) you have for this type, you'll find they are roughly 19 mm pieces:

https://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=13263

So it could be that the person who uploaded the Ka'in (one and only available) coin made a mistake in its measuring.

Regarding the date, it should say أربع , at 9 o'clock (meaning “four”); and وثلاثين, at 6 o'clock (meaning “-and- thirty”): أربع وثلاثين  ("four and thirty" is 34 in Arabic), year 34 Khani. I cannot see any AH date (which it would be right, since this type would have only a Khani or a Hijri date).

Thanks a lot, mate! This is really helpful. To the date is 34 Khani? And that Hijri date is missing is correct as well?

I highly appreciate you're taking your time. Thanks a lot!

It is hard to be completely sure, since this script is very stylized, and on these coins you can find many variants for the same number, as you can see here:

https://creounity.com/apps/time_machine/index.php?go=ilkhans_khani_years.php&lang=en

The usual modern spelling for “4” in Arabic is أربع, similar to the first one on the left. However, on your coin, it seems to be the 4th or 5th variant from the left. For “30”, just turn the coin 180 degrees and you'll see the 2nd variant on that list.

And, besides that, the date of yours looks identical to the one showed through the link I provided first to you, the one and only example from Ka'in available on that site.

I actually found this as well: https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=108641, spelled Qāyin, though, and dated Khani 32.

I am pretty sure that coin is wrong dated as a Khani 32, but now I really do not know which one is yours: the one you linked, or the one I did 😥

And it might be a variety, but I have just noticed yours has these 3 stars where the 2 other coins have dots…

The coin on the coin page has stars as well: N#234918
