Organizing by Reference in "My collection" is wrong

When selecting to organize by Reference, something is wrong because it organizes some of the items by a reference number, some others by other and the result is odd.

I think most of us use KM# as the main reference, followed by P# or Y# when it is not available.

I tried the link. Access denied.  Doesn't matter as the issue is not isolated to My collection searches.  The search doesn't sort by reference even on a simple catalog search like this for USA coins of 25 cents. The first coin is KM#766. You have to edit the filters a choose reference like KM to have it work.  Since you can't choose a reference in the My collection search it won't sort properly.

If sort by Reference doesn't do reasonable things when no reference is specified the page should indicate this. There should be a message at the top saying:

Sort by Reference doesn't work without a reference. The page is actually sorted by ….

Also:

• If you click “Reference” under display options when it isn't selected you get a message and the search option doesn't change.
• It shouldn't be offered as an option for collection until a mechanism to choose a referenced is offered.

At one time if no reference was selected the search defaulted to reference KM. That also applied to My collection searches so sort by reference worked.  This default reference disappeared a couple of months ago, breaking the sort by reference function.
