For anyone wondering about the phrase referred to above, or who just feels like having their spirits uplifted, please allow me to share this beautiful coin with you.
It's a 1925 1 Peso from the Cullion Island Leper Colony. It's catalog value is a modest $12.50 but to me it's priceless. I collect them but they are very, very hard to find in any condition as most were melted down when the colonies closed in the 1950's because people had fears of infection from them. To find one in a nice VF condition is even harder and when they do appear for sale a bidding war often ensues and crazy prices are the norm.
In over five years I can still count the number of such coins on my toes. If it wasn't for Daryl (ALLRED1950) I'd be able to count them on one foot. The coin above arrived out of the blue in parcel of other nice coins and gifts. He doesn't collect them, but I do and in return I help him to fill his own album gaps. We don't exactly swap, we exchange gifts at random intervals when either of us finds something the other wants.
Now isn't that just a lovely way to collect coins and make friends instead of swap partners?
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

When I was reading your post and you talked about "counting them with the toes"... I am bad... combine with the coin's origins I thought; "Well if you have leprosy, then they might be as little as 1 or 2". FORGIVE ME PLEASE!!!

How nice to see the great pnightingale collect a Philippine coin. I've been concentrating on completing my Philippine coins and it's true that Leper Colony coins are hard to come by and when they do, they are highly priced. And yes I've been reading a lot of their history and seeing your post makes me feel a little proud.
Wow, Pnightingale, this is truly a beautiful coin, i have only ever seen two of these in a shop and they were in very poor condition.
Random gifts are great, nothing like making someone's day!
I got that NZ 1/2 crown which was an XF that the seller had mixed up, it was meant to be UNC, so he gave me a full refund and insisted I kept the coin. It's lovely to get a gift every now and then although in my case it was a little different I guess
Daryl is certainly the most generous person I have swapped with. Some may also remember his coin quiz during Christmas of 2013 when he gave away several coins.
Thank you all for the kinds words. Iam very behind right now Have not had a free coin post for a time. Just had my first on the freach side and want to do one here. But iam so backlog on my mailing it not funny.Once i get all caught up on my mailing i will have some.

I wanted to thank our group. Let me explain. Last week I found out a close friend took a turn for the worst. And this weekend took a nose drive. You can only fight so long. Well last night he died. So today I been taking care of some loose ends, and making phone calls. And just feeling blue. Or I say in my dark spot. Well went out and got the mail. And I found Mr. Nightingale letter with the 3 UK banknotes. Thank you Phil. And David of SC. Sent me out of the blue a mint set from Mexico. Thank you David. And Phil from the UK sent 40 coins out of the blue. He took the time to make sure I needed for my collection. Thank you Phil. You guys helped get me out of my dark spot. Thank you for your kindness. Sorry I am running so late with everything. My life just has been nuts this year. Thank you all
