Lundy Puffin 2011 Proof Set

Out of curiosity, who is responible for producing this set of fantasy coins? I mean, unlike the original 1929 coins which at least had the validity that the island's owner struck them for use on the island, this set is 100% fantasy nonsense and is starting to flood the market. But I can't find who has produced them.

Anyone know?

Matt
Okay, so its now listed in Numista as the "Joe Lang Issue", but I am still curious who is minting these.

Hello,
I think these coin might have been issued by the American coin dealer Joseph E. Lang. I heard (but don't know whether it's true or not) that he has issued other fantasy coin sets from Andaman & Nicobar, Cabinda, Galapagos Islands, Easter Island, Kurdistan and Palestine.
The 2011 Lundy coins, which bear the "JL" initials, have been transferred to the Tokens section, since they are just fantasy coins.

Hi Xavier. Yes they are privately issued by him. He has a bit of a bad reputation!

Now about the "genuine" 1929 Lundy Puffins. These were issued by the owner of the island, and while some may argue they were tokens, they were recognised as currency by the UK government, hence a prosecution was made and their production ceased!

Can we then transfer the 1929 1/2 and 1 puffin coins into the coin section? The 1965 set were another fantasy set, with no validity as coins at all, they should stary in the tokens section.

I can see this debate raging on <g>

Old Lundy coins are still under the Lundy section. The history of the 1929 coins is very interesting. Tokens or not, these coins have been used as a currency, so they deserve their own section on Numista.
I think we can consider the 1965 coins as commemorative non circulating coin, so I kept them with the 1965 ones.

I utterly agree. :o

As for the 2011 travesty....They make me so angry! Poor fools will buy them (see eBay) thinking they have some sort of validity. Grrrrrrr!

Matt
Lundy is owned by the National Trust so my guess is they have the rights to issue the tokens as part of tgheir fund raising. I have emailed them and await a response.
