What year issue are you referring to? Krause does identify several varieties for1991 but they are all catalogued as KM#158. Perhaps you could upload some pictures of yours.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
I coul'd add photose in few days.
Anyway, what I have goes like this:
1985-1999: rounded central part of the zero
1991: smaller square of the value
2000-2001: straight central part of the zero
2001-2006/2008-2010: thick-rounded central part of the zero
2007: less stripes in the square of the value (and thicker..)
images - yes please- this sounds interesting. will check my spare 10 agorot now for varieties.
if these exist and are proven by image, they will be added.
[edit]
indeed - there seem to be minor varieties. when looking with magnifiying glasses you will spot them.
early issues have the stripes aligned in a more step-like way (especially visible in the bends of the
denomination's letters) while the newer ones have smooth and rounded edges without steps.
it would be good to know when changes took place. so that the years can be commented accordingly
[edit]
also noticed that התשמ"ח 1988 too has step-like edges, while later issues have rounded edges.
I need images from ALL years - please - users of Numista participate to solve this new riddle.
please post your images of reverse here, in a resolution that lets us see the varieties
Hi, I listen that you need some scan of 10 Agorot
So here is picture of some of my doubles, I hope that I select the most of different years, but I hate to read this kind of years
As requested, I have looked out and scanned a large selection of these. Perhaps some look different, my eyesight is too poor to say, and I can't read Hebrew, so I am copping out and uploading the scan for the experts to analyse!
thanks for all help here - and all that is coming afterwards. will do my best.
@Matt: I really envy you for your scanner. what model to you own? this is great - especially since you
have so many coins scanned at once in such a resolution!
I tried to scen but couldn't... I'll try to photograph it.
any way - see on Makake photos: on the first coin (1994 התשנד), the sides of the central part of the 0 is straight,
the second (1985, התשמה) the same part is circled.
This is my take on some of the variaties.
The image of each coin is cropped from the images posted by batz and Matt Probert.
Coin 1 vs Coin 2:
The “0” is 20 vs 17 ridges wide.
The length of outer ridge of centre of the “0”, ie the difference in distance between green and blue lines. The top and bottom of the inside of the “0” appears to be at least three different shapes.
Position of right-hand foot of “1” – Red line. In Coin 2 this coincides with the left-hand side of the “0”, as it does in Coin 3. In Coin 1 there is much more kerning between the “1” and the “0”, this goes for Coin 4 as well.
Coin 3 vs Coins 1,2,4
In Coin 3 , the square consists of 19 ridges.
In Coins 1,2,4 there are 42 ridges.
wow. nice new hints where to look at. straight and rounded zero variety was already listed,
also "longer date, thin letters, taller 10" variety already present. these might be the varieties you
mentioned for התשנ״א and התשס״א
added all new information into the coin sheet - have a look.
the english version is now commented up to missing coins and has a description in the
text field. - needs translation into french. anyone up for this task?
one interesting thing. if you have a look at Matt's 5760 issue with letters התש״ס
you will notice that if greatly differs in design from all the others.
it does not have an embossed/relief square with ridges on it but rather is formed out of ridges on
a flat coin surface. if anyone can confirm that 5760 issue is made of this design only...
and some more things to confirm:
- the 2nd and 3rd entry is still missing some images that show that they have either smooth or
step-like numerals (means dates: 5746 and 5747).
- the 19 ridges variety is very interesting, too - thanks @ Wetstuff. Maybe someone can confirm that
this coin is always a "19-ridge-design" instead of 42...
What about this?
Image again taken from Matt's post.
The one of the left, the "valleys" between the ridges are on the same level as the flats of the coin, ie the ridges form the square.
On the coin on the right, it appears that the ridges are on a raised square which itself is above the level of the coin flats. On this coin the ridges are almost worn away but you can still see the raised square, ie the "valleys" between the ridges are not on the same level as the flats of the coin.
I've contact the Israeli mintage authority and asked them for specific details.
They asked me for pictures so I'll take some from here and sand them...
@Wetstuff: it's the 5760 issue I mentioned - yes, it seems it has a completely different design of the
square. I already added this to the coin sheet. however I would like to know if all year 5760 issues
have this design...
1985 Coarse "10" outline, tall "10", thin rounded central part of "0", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
1986 Smooth "10" outline, tall "10", thin rounded central part of "0", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
1991 Smooth "10" outline, small "10", straight central part of "0", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
1997 Smooth "10" outline, tall "10", thin rounded central part of "0", closed "ה", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
1997 Smooth "10" outline, tall "10", thin rounded central part of "0", open "ה", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
2000 Coarse "10" outline, tall "10", straight central part of "0", ridges on flat surface, thinner ridges
2001 Smooth "10" outline, tall "10", thick rounded central part of "0", ridges on raised surface, thinner ridges
2007 Smooth "10" outline, tall "10", thick rounded central part of "0", ridges on raised surface, thicker ridges
Here's what i researched so far (i put only the first year of a type)
Altough 1997 type only has the ה different than 1986
Thanks - now I looked at page again I see last two also wrong. The headings are
2 New Seqalim KM 433 [no h letter]
5 New Sequalim KM 207 [no h letter, and extra u letter]
but when each is clicked on they are correctly spelled as Sheqalim on the actual page.
