Weird lot purchase

8 posts
I've just come across one of the weirdest lots I've bought for a while. It was weird in a few ways:
  • Firstly, it was stored in an old trading card album so all the coins were swimming around in huge pockets.
  • Secondly there was no real order to the collection, most of the country coins were grouped together, but then there were random coins mixed in with them, like one page was all Fijian coins with 1 US cent mixed in
  • Thirdly was the content, while it was mostly Fiji, US and NZ coins there was some random shrapnel that seemed to have been thrown in as an afterthought.
  • Fourthly, there was a Fijian 2c coin that someone had stripped the copper plating off the zinc core.
  • and lastly the value, where there are a lot of low value coins like US and Canadian cents, cu-ni pre-decimal New Zealand coins, modern Fijian coins, there was also some nice pre-decimal Fijian coins, a large 1967 New Zealand dollar, and the real reason I bought the lot.....a fair amount of silver.

I've scanned the lot (and organised it properly) so have a look

Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Ha, no doubt you're right
That is an odd set of US Cents, four wheat cents and four zlincons. I wonder if the newer coins were used to fill spots where others were removed.
That is an unusual mixture, they seem to grab my attention when they are like that in bulk lots I see.

The silver is a real mixture too. Some of it is a bit worn, but then you've got the 1/4 balboa from Panama which is pretty much uncirculated. The Fiji coins are in excellent condition too.
