Bailiwick of Jersey button

3 posts
I've been given this button by a relative a few years ago but only now I realised it's actually a 1/12 of shilling coin.

However, I can't find any information about it online, so I'm not sure if it is something official or just a gift made by someone.

Could anyone help me with it please?

P.S.: I've looked the 1/12 coin up in the catalog and it says its made of bronze, but this thing seems to be some other metal, maybe copper-nickel or even steel.

Thanks everybody in advance!

Hi,

Funky looking button you have there! :O

It's not uncommon for people to do things like this to coins, particularly lower-value ones (like this Jersey penny - 1/12th of a shilling is a penny).

It looks very bronze to me in your pictures, but maybe someone might have plated it or dipped it to turn it a different colour for aesthetic reasons.
Yeah, I've considered that. It has a deep reddish colour, but I don't think it's similar to bronze. Maybe someone plated it with copper-nickel like you said.

I just don't have any idea of how it ended up here in Brazil haha.

Thanks for the answer, I'll leave the topic open in case someone else has something to add.
