Adding new pictures

9 posts
Hello all,

I would like to remind you of recommendations for adding pictures:

Below is some optional guidance that will result in better pictures:
  • Definition: Scan the coin at 720 dpi or more. If you use a camera, make sure that the picture shows the smallest details.
  • However you make the picture, use a white background. If possible, cut out the coin on your computer. It will result in a fully white background.
  • Otherwise, cut a square picture so that the coin uses the full picture area
  • Make the picture of an upright coin. If not, you may also rotate it on your computer.
  • You may also slightly improve the contrast and colors on your computer. Of course, the nicer the original coin, the nicer the picture.

Not directed at anyone I hope! :O

Could you recommend a good site/program for cropping coins available for Mac? I'm doing it the slow way by just opening it and cropping it then filling in the background with white on Paint. Not the most efficient, I know.
Hopefully someone can, I am use MS Paint and I suck at using it. :D

I use this and it seems it is for mac too, the free version gets anything done ... for fancy stuff you could pay.
It's the same program many here use but it looks a bit better at least for my taste, I like dark themes ... I wish Numista had a night theme so I wouldn't burn out my eyes every night :°
I'm personally using Adobe's Photoshop for cropping my coins. Also came across some web tools for round coins but haven't really used any of them extensively. Best free alternative to Photoshop would be GIMP but it's too cumbersome for my liking
Photoshop is quite expensive especially now with this dumb renting scheme unless you are an evil good for nothing stealing person :°. Also, if you use it just for cropping, it's like using Wolfram Alpha to solve 2+2.
That's true. It's easier when you can use enterprise license provided by your employer :D

Thanks, but it seems you have to get if from the App Store (which I can't, something about my Apple ID is messed up right now). Do you have anything that can be accessed online or downloaded for use on a Mac?
I am using GIMP for cropping pictures. It`s not the most intuitive program, but it`s free and works for me ;)
