Hello,
It's about this coin : https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces105270.html

Two different type of legends on the reverse side : we don't consider them as variants but as two different types in this case.
The coin on the picture is the one with "IN DOMINO CONFIDO A[N]O".

That makes sense to me. I sent a request to create a new page. :`
My requests were rejected because the referee sees these as different varieties of the same type rather than different types.

While I disagree, I cannot split a page without the cooperation of the referee. And because I cannot seem to find any guidelines stating what to do in a situation like this, this may actually be the choice of the referee, so I do not think there is anything I can do about this.

Sorry...
I understand your position and I kinda agree about the fact you can't interfere with the decision of a referee...

However, I think all the referees must follow the same rules : the goal of a catalog is to compile the results and present them in an understanding, harmonious and consistent way.

Every authors follow their own rules when they create a catalog : we shouldn't follow them on blind faith but follow Numista rules instead.
We can't build a catalog if we leave the referees decide on whatever they consider as a "type" or not.

There is an implied rule about the letterings that we usually follow on Numista  :
If the legends use different words on at least one face, different pages should be created, even if the design didn't change. Abbreviations don't change the meaning of a legend and are considered as variants.
Big changes in the typography (Gothic vs Latin forms for example) or in the calligraphy when it changes the design of the coin (cf. the akçes in the Ottoman coinage) lead to separate pages.

Sames should be made about the mints and the countermarks to know when we should split the pages and when we should group them. We can't have different rules for every countries... it's messy.

We probably should have a public debate about those points to clarify some tricky cases and create once and for all catalog guidelines intended for the users and the referees.
Oh yes, I love consistency--that's why I would love to see that page split. But if rules are implied, sometimes implied is not enough. If we can get some set guidelines for a situation like this, I could possibly get this page split. While I will still need the cooperation of the referee, I will at least have a more supported reason to split this page: it is the guidelines.

With that being said, I do not want to reject this request, but I cannot mark it as done. I will change its status to accepted. That way, if we can get some set guidelines, I will come back to this thread and try again. :`
