Hey everyone I am very new to coin collecting. Started off by trying to get one of as many years as possible for now(Canadian only for now). I am now learning about all the different kinds of the same years and all. I just received my first Whitman book which is Canada 5 Cents Collection Starting 2013 Number Three. I was literally shocked when I opened the book(probably because I don't know what I am doing lol) to find no labels under the holes. What I am getting at is what coins go in this book? The only one that is labeled is the very first one with 2013 RCM.
Hi there, I might be able to help, I've been keeping up with my Canadian coins for about 8 years now, really filled in the missing holes. Now, I don't have Whitman albums but that's ok. In my album, I have pretty much every circulation coin out there for the 1922-present version of the 5 cent piece. Here's a photo of my last page - I have up to 2018 because I haven't found a 2019 version that I want to keep and 2020's version isn't out in AB yet, I guess. But the rest are there and labelled. You will be able to find everything you are missing for your 2013 and forward book in every day change (except for 2020). If you don't get a lot of change in everyday life, go to your bank and buy $10 worth (5 rolls). I'll be shocked if you don't find all of the 2013 to present coins within 5 rolls.
Keep in mind if you hear about a 2017 regular beaver version, those were made in sets only, as that's the year for the 150th Canada's birthday commemorative put out to public..
I am addicted to bringing home rolls of coins by the box load haha. I ended up purchasing a set of 2017. I have a decent collection going I just don't know all the variations of the coins like the 1994P, I understand it's the location of minting and all. Is there a website that shows all the different types?
If you are talking about Canadian coins, the P that you find on between 2000 and 2006 is not like the P you find on other countries' coins. On others, you're right, it shows the mint location. With Canada, the P meant "plated" - these were the first years of the nickel plated steel core coins. After a while, the RCM took out the P and added the RCM logo that looks like a maple leaf, and are identified in the catalogues here as "L" for logo. (Except for anything that says "WP", the W is for Winnipeg)
All of my research shows there is no 1994 P 5 cent for Canada, during the last years of the cupro-nickel composition. Any 1994 P 5 cent that I've seen was from the US - Philadelphia mint.
But if you want to find obscure variations - coinsandcanada.com is pretty good
