Silver coins were among the first coins ever used, thousands of years ago. The silver standard was used for centuries in many places of the world. And the use of silver for coins, instead of other materials, has many reasons.
Sorry for posting this here, but is it really fair to have gold coins go up against non gold? If I were in charge of MPCC I would prohibit gold coins from competing outside the all gold category, or at least have this gold coin go up against another gold coin in the first round (e.g. the Argentine 5 pesos).
If I owned the Paraguyan coin I would be pretty mad right now.

Strange logic. So, maybe silver coins only against silver coins, copper against copper and so on? If the coin is nice, people would vote, no matter what metal. By the way, last year my golden coin lost to silver coin, so it's not always gold that's winning.

I agree. It's the design that matters here, not the metal or the FV/CV/MV.

Alright, fair points; I was suggesting only gold vs gold; it certainly seems there's a bias in favour of the gold coins, when this round's 31-0 and the one with the Argentine gold coin is also winning 25-3.
But then again that Canadian gold coin lost in the quarterfinals of North America so it's not always so I guess.
If this coin was available for a reasonable price from the owner I'd buy it without a second thought. And I don't collect gold. (I literally have a James I gold halfcrown and crown, and a James I gold Angel, a mexican counterfeit gold 8 Escudo in my coin collection, and a little malta gold coin with a ship in my medal collection.)
It's simply a beautiful coin with a rich history, and honestly I'd probably vote against my own south american entry for it.
